Chimu Pottery Stirrup Vessel w/ Monkey on Handle

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel with a compressed spherical body, a stirrup-shaped handle, and a projecting cylindrical spout. Adorning one side of the handle is a stylized monkey figurine, and pale yellow stripes accentuate the body. Size: 5.2" W x 7.5" H (13.2 cm x 19 cm)

Provenance: ex-private collection of the late Father Bader, University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas, USA; exhibited in the University of St. Thomas Art Gallery, acquired prior to 2000

Abrasions and nicks to body, handle, monkey, and spout, with fading to original pigment, and light encrustations. Light earthen deposits and manganese blooms throughout.
