Chimu Wood Textile Tool with Standing Lord Figure
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1000 CE. A skillfully carved wooden textile tool, perhaps a loom stick, with a standing lord finely rendered at the upper end. The regal figure presents a bold visage comprised of wide-open almond-shaped eyes, a relatively naturalistic nose, closed full lips with nasolabial folds extending from the nose beside the cheeks - topped by a prominent 'plumed' headdress. The figure stands with his hands clasped to make a prayerful gesture and wears a long cloak that is nicely incised with a geometric pattern resembling that of Chimu textiles that falls past his shoulders to his calves. Size: 17.125" H (43.5 cm); 18.25" H (46.4 cm) on included custom stand.
