Yunnan. Kuang-hsü Dollar ND (1908) MS62 PCGS, Kunming mint, KM-Y254, L&M-418, Kann-166, Chang-CH148, WS-0659 (1907), Wenchao-831 (rarity 1 star; 1907). An exquisite survivor of this first milled silver Dollar of the province, preserved at a level--both conditionally and visibly--that will appeal to even the most discerning series collectors. Often seen cleaned or with even gray patination, this vibrant specimen is positively awash with color, softer peach hints at the center bleeding into violet, seafoam, and cerulean notes as it moves outwards towards the rims. In terms of its technical grade, just 9 examples have yet been certified finer, with none seen by either grading company above an MS64. For the sake of comparison, the closest recent selection we have offered was an AU55, which brought $15,600 as part of our August Platinum Night event. Easily a coin which could be seen with a "star" or "plus" designation in a more modern holder on account of its eye appeal alone, and one which must be viewed in hand to be fully appreciated.
