the baluster sides painted with birds among branches of prunus, inscribed with a seal and two lines of calligraphy which may be translated as: 'The old prunus tree is blossoming, but its branches are thin and gnarled/ The older its gets, the more it gains in character', the base with apocryphal Chenghua mark (glaze crack and hairline running vertically over one line of calligraphy)
