Chinese 18K Brooch with Jade, Rubies, Diamonds
A Chinese brooch dating from the early 20th century. The brooch is in the shape of a cabbage with a cricket. The cabbage is 18K white gold, while the body of the cricket features 2 jadeite cabochons and 2 faceted ruby eyes. The cricket grasps a cluster of 10 small diamonds.
Dimensions: 3 1/16 inches tall X 2 1/8 inches wide, 7.8 cm tall X 5.4 cm wide. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: One of the small diamonds shows evidence of glue residue, otherwise good condition.
Provenance: From Mrs. Hillebrand in Chicago. Her father-in-law purchased these items in China and Hong Kong between 1935 and 1970. Lots 79-90 from our March 14, 2019 auction were from the same collection.
