Chinese 18th C Blue and White Canton Ginger Jar
A blue and white Chinese jar with an early design precursor to the willow ware pattern from the late 18th century.
A thickly, heavy hand potted round ginger jar decorated with pagodas, mountains, trees, water and a fisherman. The painting is quickly but expertly painted. It has an abstract quality. The jar has a thick smooth off-white glaze and the design is painted with a dark cobalt underglaze.
The jar has an unglazed lip and foot ring. The base glaze has an orange peel look.
MEASUREMENTS
7” (17.8 cm) tall x 7 ½” (19.0 cm) diameter. Weighs 2 lb 14.6 oz (1325 g)
CONDITION
There are no chips, cracks, or breaks. There is surface wear but it still looks fresh and bright. There are small cobalt explosions common to older porcelains.
A great old jar to add to a collection of blue and white in the décor. It feels so smooth.
