Chinese Agate Snuff Bottle, 19th Century
A Chinese agate snuff bottle with an agate stopper. Dates from the 19th century. The snuff bottle is incised with a dragonfly on one side and a duck on the other.
Dimensions are: 2 3/4 inches tall X 1 7/8 inches wide. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: The lid is glued on, otherwise good condition.
Provenance: From the estate of Mr. & Mrs. Martinson in northern Minnesota. Mr. Martinson's grandparents Andrew and Anna Martinson went to China in 1903 and Mr. Andrew Martinson died in China in 1913; the couple's son, Mr. Harold Martinson, our collector's father, was born in China, as was Mr. Martinson himself in 1931. The present Mr. & Mrs. Martinson later served as missionaries to Hong Kong in the 1960s.
