Chinese Black Silk Woman's Robe, 19th Century

A Chinese black-ground lady's robe dating from the 19th century. The robe has decorative roundels of blue lotuses with bats and insects featuring the forbidden stitch. The bottom of the robe is bordered by a band of lotus tracery with squirrels, and the cuffs of the sleeves feature bands of lotus tracery with figures.

Dimensions are: 41 1/2 inches tall X 57 1/2 inches wide, 105.4 cm X 146.1 cm. All measurements are approximate.

Condition: There is minor staining. There is thread loss on the arms and an area of tearing to the reverse.
