Chinese Carved Black Lacquer Box, Ming Dynasty
A Chinese carved black lacquer box dating from the Ming dynasty. The lobed square box features carved floral tracery on a red ground on its exterior with a Greek key border around its foot. The interior is red.
Dimensions are: 3 1/8 inches tall X 4 3/4 inches wide, 7.9 cm X 12.1 cm. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: There is chipping and loss to the lacquer on the foot, the top of the lid, and the rims of the lid and base. There are areas of cracking to the corners of the base and lid. The lid is slightly warped.
