Chinese Carved Celadon Jade Vase Lamp, 18th Century

A Chinese celadon jade lidded vase dating from the 18th century that has been converted into a lamp. The vase has beast head handles with engaged rings, and both sides of the body feature Chilong. There is a stylized leaf band around its neck, and beast heads adorn the lid. The vase sits upon a wooden stand.

Dimensions are: the vase measures 15 inches tall X 6 inches wide, 38.1 cm X 15.2 cm, while the whole lamp measures 26 3/4 inches tall X 6 inches wide, 67.9 cm X 15.2 cm. All measurements are approximate.

Condition: Aside from its conversion to a lamp, the vase is in overall good condition.

Provenance: From the collection of the late Ezra and Cecile Zilkha. Ezra and Cecile Zilkha were American philanthropists and art collectors whose banking businesses took them around the world, allowing them to amass a legendary collection of art from around the globe. A similar example that has not been converted into a lamp was sold at Christie's New York on September 18, 2007, as lot 89.
