Chinese Diamond-Shaped Cinnabar Vase, Qianlong
A Chinese diamond-shaped cinnabar vase with a 6-character mark on the bottom of Qianlong and of the period. Each side features landscape scenes with figures. The scenes are surrounded by meander motifs, leaves, and Buddhist emblems on a geometric ground around the vase's neck, mouth, and foot.
Dimensions are: 19 1/2 inches tall X 8 1/2 inches wide, 49.5 cm X 21.6 cm. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: There is a large chip to the foot and a small area of repair to one corner of the shoulder. There is cracking to the lacquer due to humidity.
Provenance: From a private Southern California collection. A similar, round cinnabar vase is housed in the National Palace Museum of Taipei under accession number 000043-N000000000. A similar, square cinnabar vase was sold at Sotheby's New York on March 18, 2008, as lot 241.
