[ translate ]

East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A hollow-built pottery tomb attendant in the form of a kneeling woman painted with pigments in hues of cream, dark gray, black, and brick-red. Wearing a lengthy robe, the woman rests with both knees tucked beneath her thighs and with red-painted feet crossed along the verso. She holds both arms out as if presenting offerings or as a gesture of respect; the perforations along her wrists are missing their original hands. Red pigment lines the folds of her robes as well as her supple lips, with black pigment decorating her pupils, eyebrows, and tightly bound coiffure. Size: 4.5" W x 10.375" H (11.4 cm x 26.4 cm)

Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, aquired in England in 1980s from a private old English collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
