Chinese Han Dynasty Pottery Bowl w/ Pedestal Base

East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A wheel-thrown greyware bowl with a discoid foot and a pedestal base, a wide body with rounded walls, a tapered lip for accommodating a lid, and a deep interior cavity. Bowls like this were typically used inside tombs for holding offerings of food and other substances meant to sustain the deceased in the afterlife. The exterior is covered in a pale grey slip, giving it a wonderful presentation evocative of ancient China. Size: 7.25" W x 5.375" H (18.4 cm x 13.7 cm).

Condition Report: Original lid missing. Surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age, small but stable pressure fissure beneath foot, fading to some areas of slip, with small nicks to rim, body, stem, and foot, and light roughness across most surfaces. Nice earthen deposits and root marks throughout.
