Chinese Han Glazed Pottery Figural Lamp TL Tested

East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A striking mold-made ceramic figural lamp, made to be placed in a tomb and glazed with a thick, pale blue pigment that coats almost the entirety of the visible surface and has aged to have a gorgeous silvery iridescence. It features a crouched figure wearing a tall, conical cap, holding a young child on his lap. With one arm, and resting on one knee, the figure holds a tall, upturned lamp with a long cylindrical handle and a bell-shaped bowl that towers above his head. This type of lamp would have been placed into a tomb as an offering. Size: 5.55" W x 12" H (14.1 cm x 30.5 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.

Provenance: ex-Vero Beach, Florida, USA collector, acquired before 1998

Condition Report: Small chip from underside, but otherwise in very good condition. TL drill holes on underside. Great silvery and pearlescent patina on surface with some of the original glaze shining through with excellent craquelure.
