Chinese Jade Cat with Dragonfly,18th Century or Earlier
A Chinese jade cat with a bell around its neck and a dragonfly in its mouth, dating from the 18th century or earlier.
Dimensions are: 1 3/4 inches tall X 2 1/8 inches wide. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: It is in good condition.
Provenance: From the Slade family collection of Chinese ceramics and jade; assembled by three members of the family and by descent to the present owner. The collection was begun by Henry Adolphus Warre Slade (1869 - 1936), British businessman, member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (1908/09), and the Director of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation between 1900 and 1902. The collection was added to by his sons, Royal Navy Commander Gerald Gordon Slade, who fought in both World Wars, and his brother Maurice Gordon Slade. The Slade family hold peerage and are noted in Charles Mosley's. Burke's Peerage.
