Chinese Jade Qilin Plaque with Wooden Stand, Ming
A Chinese jade Qilin plaque holding 2 leaves in its mouth with a wooden stand and dating from the Ming dynasty.
Dimensions are: the plaque measures 2 1/2 inches tall X 3 3/8 inches wide. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: Age appropriate wear.
Provenance: From the estate of Mr. & Mrs. Martinson in northern Minnesota. Mr. Martinson's grandparents Andrew and Anna Martinson went to China in 1903 and Mr. Andrew Martinson died in China in 1913; the couple's son, Mr. Harold Martinson, our collector's father, was born in China, as was Mr. Martinson himself in 1931. The present Mr. & Mrs. Martinson later served as missionaries to Hong Kong in the 1960s.
