Chinese Lacquer, Hardstone & Enamel 6-Panel Screen
A fine Chinese 6-panel lacquer, hardstone and enamel painted folding floor screen (Beijing, China). On one side the panels are enamel painted depicting birds within an abundant array of flowers above bamboo. The opposing side is decorated and inset with hardstone and raised brown lacquer depicting a flowering dogwood tree with birds perched on branches. The borders are enamel decorated with dragons and white flowers within a geometric motif. Each hinged panel measures 72" high, 15.75" wide and .75" thick. Overall open measurement, 72" high, 95.25" wide. (measurement includes open air space between hinges).CONDITION NOTE: some minor losses to edges.PROVENANCE: The screen originated in Beijing, China (20th century) and was used as an exhibit screen for the Science World Presentation of 7000 years of Chinese History. Originally purchased on the last day of the exhibit, August 12, 2001, Science World, Vancouver, BC, Canada.
