Chinese Late 19th C Porcelain Stacking Food Box

Title: Chinese Late 19th C Porcelain Stacking Food Box
Size: 5 7/8” (14.9 cm) tall x 5” (12.7 cm) diameter.
Description: A bright and colorful hand painted set of four stacking porcelain dishes that depicts a garden of flowers, grasses and butterflies.

Each of the dishes are identical. The lid repeats the various designs on the dishes. The lid is topped with a metal finial with a ring that runs through it. The dishes have ridges and flanges that fit together tightly. They have cut unglazed foot rings that reveal a refined off-white clay. The bases of the four dishes are glazed. The overall glaze is a nice white which feels very thick and smooth.

The unglazed flange on the lid and the unglazed mouth of one of the dishes have a matching Chinese character painted in black. There are no marks other than the two painted characters.

MEASUREMENTS
5 7/8” (14.9 cm) tall x 5” (12.7 cm) diameter. Weighs 2 lbs 10.8 oz (1215 g)

CONDITION

There are no chips, breaks, or cracks. The glazes are bright and intact. There are kiln flaws, such as black spots, pin hole reserve, and brown spots. There is wear to the gilding on the rim of the lid.

A colorful antique set of stacking food dishes to add to a collection or admire in the décor. The set has much hand work.
