East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A grey terracotta roof tile cap, mold-made to have a raised edge and an interior relief image with four distinct areas of Chinese characters. The center of the tile has a raised dome-shaped bulb with twelve smaller hemispherical orbs encircling it, and the verso has a small recessed area for attaching to the end of a roofing pole. Size: 5.625" Diameter (14.3 cm).
Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection, acquired in the 1980s to 1990s
