Antique Chinese painted ceramic jar dating from the Neolithic period
Large ceramic urn with a narrow base, an inverted pear-shaped body bearing a rounded shoulder, a flared rim, and two small tubular handles spaced equidistantly around the midsection.
The body is decorated with applied black pigments forming two stylized figures and broken lines between the handles framed by wavy bands. Above the handles, two large roundels with checkerboard patterns.
Such containers were perhaps used to store large quantities of foodstuffs or were even used as funeral urns.
Size: height 27. 4 cm x width 31. 5 cm.
