Chinese Ordos Rectangular Zoomorphic Plaque Group

5th-2nd century BC. A group of rectangular openwork bronze plaques or mounts, each with four kneeling regardant stylised beasts, with circular eyes and detailing to the bodies and paws; reverses of two plaques with rectangular mounting 'straps'. See Bunker, E.C. ed., Nomadic Art of the Eastern Eurasian Steppes. The Eugene V. Thaw and Other New York Collections, New York 2002, p. 161, no. 139, for a similar example; see Barbier, J.P., Art des Steppes.
