Chinese Porcelain Mirror Black Gilded Vase 19th C

A baluster shaped Chinese mirror black vase with gilded design of Buddha hand fruit, pomegranate, and peach. These are all auspicious symbols for longevity, wealth and many children.

A hand thrown vase in baluster form with a flared mouth and glazed in a thick shiny mirror black glaze with the white glaze showing in the interior and on the base. The vase has been decorated with gilded designs of a peach tree with Buddha hand fruit and a pomegranate tree. The neck is decorated with a circling vine of melon and butterflies. Around the shoulder and foot are gilded longevity characters. Around the mouth is a key fret border and below this border are branches of fruit.
The rounded foot is unglazed but the base is glazed. There are no marks or labels.

MEASUREMENTS

11 ½” (29.2 cm) tall x 4 5/8” (11.7 cm) diameter. Weighs 2 lb 1.2 oz (945 g)

CONDITION

There is an old repair at the mouth. The gilding is worn. The base has a filled in area in the center. The vase probably had been drilled for a lamp and then repaired when it was taken apart.
