Chinese Qianlong 18th C Blue White Porcelain Plate

[ translate ]

A delicately painted and potted Chinese 18th century plate with a garden design.

A thinly potted plate with a nice translucence that has been decorated in under glaze cobalt. The well of the plate has a design of bamboo, peony, lotus, chrysanthemum, an upright stone and a fence. The little garden rests by a pond or lake. The cavetto has a running design of flowers. The rim has a floral border and the edge has an iron band. The back is undecorated. The glaze is very soft and thick feeling. It has a nice gloss and shows only a small amount of wear on the surface. The foot ring is shallow, unglazed and cut. The base is glazed and you can see the potter’s wheel marks under the glaze.

MEASUREMENTS
8 ¾” diameter x 1 1/8” tall. Weighs 12.1 oz (340 g)

CONDITION
A large piece has been repaired near the lower rim. One sliver of the surface is missing. The rest of the surface of the plate shows slight wear and there is a glaze frit on the mouth rim. There are kiln flaws such as black spots and pin holes in the glaze. The plate has a very clean entire look even with the break.

A well painted, delicate plate from the 18th century. It will add to a blue and white collection or help make a bold statement in the home décor.
