Chinese Qing Dynasty Bronze Chop Seal

East Asia, China, Qing (Ching) Dynasty, ca. 1644 to 1912 CE. A petite cast-bronze chop seal, square in form, with four slanted sides. The seal bears a perforated tubular suspension loop integral with its top, and the base boasts a quartet of Chinese characters in low relief, each carefully designed to withstand countless stamping presses. Chop seals like this example were used by everyone from scribes and artisans to governmental officials and even the emperor himself. A wonderful example covered in layers of green and dark-brown patina. Size: 0.725" W x 0.55" H (1.8 cm x 1.4 cm).
