Chinese Red Square Box with 8 Immortals, 19th Century
A Chinese imitation cinnabar 3-tiered box dating from the 19th century. The lid features a garden scene with the Eight Immortals. The sides of the box have geometric motifs. The interiors of the tiers are black. The bottom has a 6-character mark.
Dimensions are: 4 1/4 inches tall X 12 1/2 inches wide X 8 3/4 inches deep, 10.8 cm X 31.8 cm X 22.2 cm. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: There are multiple areas of breakage and overpainting.
Provenance: From the collection of Mr. Williams in Texas. Mr. Williams has more than 50 years of collecting experience in Buddhist sculptures, paintings, and ritual objects from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Tibet, and the Central Plains of China. He has participated in sales around the world including in Hong Kong and throughout Tibet and Europe.
