With it's curved shoreline and European-style buildings, the Praia Grande, or in Chinese 'Nam Wan', is probably one of the most beloved bay scenes in Chinese trade paintings. This former Portugese bay is located on the eastern end of the Macau peninsula. On the left we can see famous Penha Hill and on the far right there is Duddell's Oriental Hotel, later renamed the European Warehouse and Tavern. In the bay we see a mixture of traditional Chinese fishing and trading boats and a paddle steamer.
