A Shanxi Province 19th century to early 20th century Chinese painted wood chest or trunk with metal latch to the front. Constructed from oak wood with peg joints to the edges and painted black to the sides, hinged top, and back. The front features a red and gold motif of two warriors heading to battle on horses. A border of pink and red flowers and fruit surround the front image.The flowers and fruit represent plenty and good fortune.
