Chinese Song Dynasty Basin (Guangdong Xicun Kiln)

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $300**

East Asia, China, Northern Song Dynasty, Guangdong, Xicun kiln, ca. early 12th century CE. A fabulous stoneware basin of sizable scale presenting a concave base and thick walls that swell outwards to an inward-rolled rim. Enveloped in brown glaze, the vessel has been impressed with 6 floral motifs at the center of its interior basin. Remains of symbols painted onto the underside of the base may have once been Chinese characters indicating ownership. This basin bears a striking resemblance to those found in the Lingga and Pulau Buaya shipwrecks, and thus was likely manufactured in the Xicun kilns of the Guangdong province. Size: 12.5" Diameter x 4.8" H (31.8 cm x 12.2 cm)

Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#183652
Condition Report: Some restoration or adhesive along stable hairline fissure extending down wall from rim, and expected weathering with nicks, abrasions, and minor chipping to surface as shown. Otherwise, mostly intact with liberal remaining pigments. Marine encrustations in areas.
