East Asia, China, Song to Yuan Dynasty, ca. late 13th to mid-14th century CE. A hollow pottery mercury jar with a petite base, a gradually-widening body, a rounded shoulder, and a miniscule raised spout rim. Vessels like this example were kept in large numbers within storehouses and transportation vessels and were used to store rice wine; despite their name, they were not used for transporting mercury. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 4.25" W x 8" H (10.8 cm x 20.3 cm); 9" H (22.9 cm) on included custom stand.
