Chinese Tang Dynasty Ceramic Polo Player
Chinese, Tang Dynasty. The rider, with hair dressed in a double topknot with the body bent slightly to the side and the head positioned to follow the ball. The horse is shown in full gallop with head pulled to the left and mouth open, some traces of original white and black pigment remains, with acrylic display stand. Approx: h. 11.625" w. 14.375" d. 6". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Morton & Kathleen Sachs of Louisville, Kentucky, purchased from TK Asian Antiquities (Williamsburg, VA) in 2000 or 2001 for $14,000.
