Chinese Tang Dynasty Pottery Female Tomb Attendant

East Asia, China, Tang Dynasty, ca. 618 to 907 CE. A mold-formed pottery tomb attendant in the form of a female noblewoman. She wears a lengthy robe tied with a belt in the front, clasps her hands together in front of her abdomen, and has a slender neck line. Her sensitive visage is composed of ovoid eyes, a slender nose above full lips, and rounded cheeks, all beneath an elaborate forked headdress. The exterior is covered in pale yellow and pink pigment, suggesting this figure was at one time painted with vivid coloration. Size: 2.5" W x 9.2" H (6.4 cm x 23.4 cm).

Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection, acquired in the 1980s to 1990s
