Chinese White Jade Carved Plaque, 18th Century
A Chinese white jade plaque dating from the 18th century. The plaque is carved on 1 side with a weaver at her loom and on the other with a scholar in a boat with a 5-character inscription and 1 seal.
Dimensions: 2 3/8 inches tall X 1 3/4 inches wide X 1/4 inch deep; 6 cm tall X 4.4 cm wide X 0.6 cm deep. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: One small chip to 1 corner.
Provenance: From Mrs. Hillebrand in Chicago. Her father-in-law purchased these items in China and Hong Kong between 1935 and 1970. Lots 79-90 from our March 14, 2019 auction were from the same collection. Two similar white jade plaques were sold at Christie’s New York on September 19, 2013 as lot 1163 and lot 1164.
