Ink manuscript. 23 lines, on recto of single sheet, with inkstamp seal at top. 34.5x21.5 cm (13½x8½").

Early manuscript relating to the presence of Chinese in Cuba, signed in Chinese by the principal subject. The document is regarding a Chinese indentured servant from the town of Chura Kaul of "the Great China." He is a carpenter thirty years of age and is looking to obtain his Residency Card and he has presented his credentials as a Christian to this effect. It is requested that since the Chinese indentured servant has fulfilled the requisites for the card that his Residency Card be expedited. The document is signed crudely in Chinese by the Chinese indentured servant, as the manuscript states, "since he does not know how to write." Dated September, 1863.
Condition Report: Paper darkened with some mottling, a bit of edge wear; very good.
