Chinese transitional wucai porcelain baluster jar

Chinese transitional wucai porcelain baluster jar, in typical "guan" shape with ovoid body which tapers slightly down to the flat, unglazed base; the short, wide neck finished with a rolled rim, decorated with a band of plantain leaf, the shoulder features four peony sprays in floriform reserves on a checkered ground in coral red. The main band on the body also repeats the coral red ground, but with the cash coin motif and the four reserved roundels now features four flying phoenix at various perspectives, further adorned by four pairs of confronting ruyi form reserves near the shoulder and the base, each presents a lotus spray, the latter repeated in continuous scroll above the base. The well-balanced combination of the five colors (red, yellow, green, blue and white) make this an outstanding example of wucai (five colors) genre.
