Subsequent generations of Dunlap family cabinetmakers continued in the tradition of making distinctive New Hampshire furniture, influenced by designs brought to this country by Scotch-Irish immigrants. Born in Antrim, New Hampshire, Donald A. Dunlap (1934-2019) was in the grocery business during his professional career; however, his true passion was woodworking and making furniture. For about 40 years he carried on the Scotch-Irish influence with designs such as basketweave, dentil moldings, “floward og” (flowered ogee) moldings, fans, spoon handle plumes, S-scrolls and typical skirt profiles. He combined these mid-eighteenth century elements with the development of different methods of construction and design, along with the use of modern tools, to create an original style of his own.
