The engraved and silvered composite brass dial inscribed, "John Wood, Philadelphia," a hand-written label affixed to waist door reads, "Grandfather's clock belonged to Jane Clark see Sampler...".

PROVENANCE:
A hand-written note and typed transcription accompany clock. The typed transcription reads: "Copied from original writing of Jane Clark [1790-1858], Great-aunt of my father, Edward Taylor Randolph to whom she bequeathed the clock. This clock was the property of Nathaniel Allen, who died in the year 1757 & left it to his daughter Hannah Allen who also dying in the year 1765 bequeathed it to her niece Hannah Richardson afterwards Hannah Clark [1749-1817] at whose death in 1817 it descended to her daughters Mary & Jane Clark the former of whom dying in the year 1835 the latter became sole proprietor & has thought proper to make this memorandum for the information of succeeding owners..." An additional note was added to the hand-written version in 1937: "Above clock is now in the possession of the 7th generation. Edward Randolph."
