A silver-gilt-mounted Meissen tankard, circa 1735

Painted with a harbour scene with figures in front of palatial buildings and distant ships, within a burnished gilt quatrelobe cartouche reserved with foliate scrollwork and inset with quatrelobe panels alternating in iron-red and purple monochrome depicting further harbour scenes, enclosed by gilt scrollwork enclosing Böttger lustre and flanked by trellis and scrollwork brackets supporting polychrome flowers in a basket, the handle embellished in gilding and Böttger lustre with a vase on a scrollwork bracket and foliate scrollwork beneath, flanked by branches of indianische Blumen, gilt borders to the rims, the flange gilt, the silver cover with unidentified hallmark HEZ, Dresden, circa 1750, with test scrape, inset with a German Taler Klippe dated 1669 from the Dresden Mint, 18.2cm high overall
