Christ, Corpus Christi - Renaissance - Wood, polychrome - Late 16th century
This crucifix stands out for its compositional and executive quality; the polychromy, even though patchy, shows all the signs of Christ's Passion before the crucifixion in a realistic key, with the torn, bruised and bleeding skin. The intense, suffered naturalism that characterizes this work in polychrome terracotta, is highlighted by details such as the blood that emerges from the wounds on the ribs, as well as on the knees and shoulders. An image that soon became a source of inspiration for numerous other sculptures, made mainly of terracotta or polychrome wood, which emphasized the brutal gravity and the opposing pose that develops a dynamism. The crucifix features a painted iron base, especially created as a support. The base only costed 50 € and is included in the price. The cross is 45 cm high and 10 cm wide The Christ figure is 36 cm tall and 11 cm wide. Safe and protected shipping
