Ivory Christ figure wearing crown of thorns, made in France in the early 19th century, complete with the INRI inscription, also in ivory. Christ’s had is reclined in a meditating pose, typical of the neoclassical iconography of the early 1800s. The sculpture is elegant and well detailed in the draping, the wound on the chest and the crown of thorns. In good overall condition, it has flaws and restorations at the hands/feet (see photos) The Christ figure is mounted on a wooden cross from the second half of the 19th century.
