LOT 92B

Christian papyrus letter fragment in Coptic text

[ translate ]

A wonderful papyrus Christian letter fragment written in Coptic text, c. 4th-5th Century AD, appearing to be intended for a man named Papros. The back of the fragment, with just single line of text, mentions the name Papros, believed to be the addressee and reads 'Give it [the letter?] to Papros'. The majority of the body on the front side remains quite legible, but proved difficult to translate, as it appears to be an informal personal letter. This fragment has been professionaly reviewed and translated. An interesting fragment, and a great example of early written communication!!! Ex Hamdy Sakr collection; previously in the private collection of Alex Anckonie III, acquired during his time in the Navy in the 1960's - 1970's.

Condition: The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections , the effects of aging, or repair/restoration work. Interested bidders are strongly encouraged to request a condition report on any lots upon which they intend to bid, prior to placing a bid, and we will be happy to give you a full overview of the items' condition.
