Christie, A. Agatha Christie Crime Collection. Hamlyn Publishing Group, 1970.
A multi-volume collection of hardcover omnibus editions from the Agatha Christie Crime Collection published by The Hamlyn Publishing Group, Ltd., London. Each volume contains three complete novels or short story collections by the author. The books are bound in publisher's black cloth-effect boards featuring red panels and gilt-coloured lettering and decoration. The spines bear a gilt-printed dagger motif and a monogram consisting of a stylised 'AC' with a horizontal line through the centre. The front boards are decorated with a matching 'AC' monogram in red and gold, accompanied by the text 'CRIME COLLECTION' in gold.
One copyright page identifies the publication as 'This collected edition © The Hamlyn Publishing Group, Ltd, 1970' and notes that the contents were 'originally published by William Collins, Sons & Co., Ltd'. The printing details state 'Photoset in Malta by St Paul’s Press Ltd' and 'Printed in England by International Printers Limited', with the SBN 6007 66 187. The collection includes titles such as The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Peril at End House, The ABC Murders, Death on the Nile, and Ordeal by Innocence.
More Information
The collection shows varying degrees of shelf wear and age-related fading. Several volumes exhibit significant sun-bleaching to the red panels on the spines, with some fading from a deep red to a pale orange or yellow hue (photo 1). There is minor rubbing and wear to the head and tail of the spines and along the board edges. The top edges of the text blocks show light dust-soiling and spotting. Internal pages appear generally clean, though some minor toning is visible to the edges of the copyright page shown (photo 4). The gilt-printed monograms on the spines show occasional light rubbing but remain largely legible.
