Chrysocolla on Malachite Mashamba West Mine, Sicomines copper-cobalt project, Mutshatsha, Lualaba, DR Congo 15.2 x 14.5 x 3.9 cm (5.98 x 5.70 x 1.53 in) Minerals often complement one another through contrasting color, coatings, or other growth relationships, and Chrysocolla over Malachite is among the most visually distinctive of these combinations. This specimen from the Mashamba West Mine is composed of velvety, botryoidal Malachite, with rounded aggregates ranging from microcrystalline surfaces to approximately 1.9 centimeters across. A later generation of Chrysocolla blankets much of the Malachite in a vivid light blue coating, while scattered windows of deeper green remain exposed, emphasizing the specimen's multi-generational growth. The broad botryoidal forms create a richly textured, three-dimensional landscape, with the fine surface of the Chrysocolla contrasting beautifully against the larger, smoothly rounded Malachite bulbs.
