Chupicuaro Redware Tripod Bowl Rattle Legs

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Guanajuato Valley, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A highly-burnished pottery bowl supported by a trio of long, conical legs. Each hollow leg is filled with small rattle balls that produce sound when the vessel is jostled. The bowl has a deep basin and a thin rim, and the entire vessel is covered in a red slip with areas of cream-hued details. Size: 7.125" W x 3.6" H (18.1 cm x 9.1 cm).

Provenance: private Newport Beach, California, USA collection, before 2000
