In many respects the quality of this object is outstanding and of museum quality. We cannot detect any signs of restoration or damaging other than a slight chip on the dial at 6 o’clock next to the opening pin.The polychrome enamelling on the back shows a miniature painting of the story of Cimon and Pero, where the incarcerated philosopher Cimon is breastfed by his daughter. Individual vignettes depicting landscapes or ruins decorate the bulging edge; the vignettes are separated by painted acanthus tendrils. The cartouche with the signatures "Les deux frère Huaut pintres de son A.E. de B. à Berlin" is positioned at 6 o’clock and means: "The two Huaut brothers painters of His Highness the Elector of Brandenburg in Berlin". The inside is painted with an idealised representation of a wayfarer in a red skirt next to a church on an alpine lake, with an island and farmstead inside. The model for this probably comes from the Dutch painter Paul Bril (1556-1626). The polychrome enamel cartouche in the centre of the dial shows a representation of Mercury and Psyche.
