Circle of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, Spanish 1617-1682- The Adoration; oil on canvas, impressed stamp 'F. Leedham / Liner' (on the reverse of the stretcher), bears old labels attached to the reverse of the stretcher, bears wax seals on the reverse of the canvas and stretcher, 73.8 x 60.3 cm. Provenance: Mrs M. T. Stephenson, Surrey, 1919. Note: Francis Leedham (1794-1870) was the leading picture liner of his day. As early as 1838, he was described as 'that ingenious artist Mr Francis Leedham' in the Christie's sale catalogue of the Northwick Collection.
