Portrait of a British officer in the 3rd Heavy Cavalry Regiment, 1770s, with powdered hair en queue, head and shoulders turned to the left, wearing red uniform, white facings and epaulettes, silver buttons bearing the number '3' surmounted by a crown, black stock and white shirt, oval, in a modern ebonized rectangular frame with glazed oval aperture, bears initials and date 'CF / 1778' (centre left), bears inscribed label 'Stawell' attached to the reverse of the frame, 3.7 x 3 cm.
