Circle of Francesco Granacci (Italian, 1477-1543) Oil on Cradled Panel, Ca. 16th C., "Madonna, Child, St. John the Baptist", H 28.5" W 21.5" | Depicting the Madonna cradling the Christ child in one arm and holding a book of hours in front of her. the Christ child reaches out to the cross held by the infant St. John the Baptist. Label on panel verso attributing the painting to Francesco d'Andrea di Marco Granacci. the panel shows obvious signs of age with scattered wormholes and honest wear visible on the verso. Mounted in an 18th/19th century frame having stenciled gilt floral designs in the upper and lower registers with two flanking Corinthian columns on the sides. Provenance: From the Estate of Prominent Collector, Leon Zielinski, Macomb County, MI. DuMouchelle Art Galleries, 9-22-1986, lot #1222.

28.5 x 21.5 in
Condition Report: Stable craquelure throughout. Very minor touches of overpaint at the faces, a few areas of the bodies and in the background (see UV photos). These areas of overpaint appear to be on top of an old layer of varnish. At the left and right sides of the panel, there looks to have been restoration work that replaced 3/4" to the panel on the left side and 1 3/4" on the right side (done in the 19th century most likely). | Please note all lots show signs of wear commensurate with age and use, and the lack of a statement regarding condition does not imply the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from defects or the effects of aging. Unless otherwise stated, all information provided is the opinion of DuMouchelles' specialists.
