The painting is executed in oil on a canvas support which has been laid to board. The paint layer has a network of age cracks, some of which are slightly raised but stable overall. There are areas of overpaint across the surface, mainly in the darks, covering wear and reinforcing areas of the composition. The varnish layer is uneven in gloss and slightly yellowed.
