The painting is a gouache on handmade paper and is unframed. The paper has some ageing and wear-and-tear but no obvious major rips, tears or holes. There are cracks in the paint resulting in areas of surface paint loss including to the figure and its face, a long vertical crack from the horse belly to the bottom edge. There is a surface abrasion resulting in paint loss to the mid-right edge and a stain in the lower area beneath the horse.
