Circle of Quentin Matsys the Elder, Flemish 1466-1530- Ecce Homo; oil on panel, 80.5x57.5cm Provenance: Sotheby's, London, 12th September 2019, lot 108 Note: Matsys's most well-known work is the 'The Ugly Duchess' (1515), his other satirical works include; 'A Portrait of an Elderly Man' (1513), and 'The Money Changer and His Wife' (1514), all focusing on the concept of human emotion and society. He also painted religious altarpieces and triptych panels, the most famous of which was built for the Church of Saint Peter in Leuven.
